Things To Do In Charlotte, NC

Charlotte, also known as the Queen City, is the perfect southern city coupling the fast pace of a big metro area with that good ole southern charm. Now that you are in your new home, you may be looking for some great city attractions. Well, look no further! Here are just a few of the many things to do in Charlotte, NC!

Carowinds

Home to two of the tallest steel roller coasters in North America, Carowinds is a sure way to spend a day of thrills! A trip to the park is a great chance to be in North and South Carolina at the same time — the park is located along the NC/SC state line.

Carowinds also features several seasonal events in September and October. During these two months the park turns into Scarowinds to get into the Halloween spirit. Enjoy The Great Pumpkin Fest with mazes of hay bales, Halloween activities including a pumpkin patch. Scarowinds also has five scare zones for older kids and adults to get a good fright for Halloween! Each scare zone has different themes with several haunting characters roaming the theme park.

Carolina Harbor offers a 6 story tall water slide complex with 6 different slides filled with twists and turns. After the excitement you can relax in the lazy river which crosses the state lines or catch some waves in the wave pool. Big and little kids alike will enjoy Seaside Splashworks. You can climb over net birdges, play with water guns, and get drenched under the 423 gallon water bucket. This attraction also has 6 water slides and will be fun for all ages! To make your day more enjoyable you can rent a cabana located inside the waterpark. The will give you some shady, has a mini fridge, ceiling fan, table and chairs under an umbrella and two lounge chairs to relax after play.

From the coasters to cooling off at Carolina Harbor Waterpark, Carowinds will be a fun day for the whole family.

US National Whitewater Center

If you are on the adventurous side and love the outdoors this will be your new spot in Charlotte. The US National Whitewater Center is perfect for every skill level water or land enthusiast. With over 30 activities, it could take you all weekend to try everything this venue has to offer. Whitewater rafting is an obvious favorite; there is also mountain biking, zip lining, climbing walls and kayaking. From May through September, stay into the night and relax with River Jam. Enjoy an eatery at the venue with tons of craft beer options all while enjoying live music entertainment after a day of adventure.

Discovery Place Science

Go on a journey at Discover Place Science. This a day trip for the whole family! Filled with several exhibits and an IMAX theatre, there is sure to be something to fulfill the interest of everyone at this museum. Here you can explore everything from Charlotte’s only indoor rain forest with different species and fish and amphibians. Be on the lookout for birds, reptiles and little guys on the floor like frogs and turtles as you walk through. Here kids can also learn about human health in the anatomy exhibit. For the little ones ages 0-7 they can explore in the Kids Science exhibit where they can experiment and tinker around to get their imaginations racing.

Bank of America Stadium- Home of the Carolina Panthers

Charlotte is home to the Carolina Panthers so you have your very own NFL team in your back yard! During football season you can make your way to the Bank of America Stadium for a game. There are several concessions throughout the stadium with food, beverages and even local craft beer from breweries around Charlotte.  You can also catch college football action at the Bank of American Stadium. This venue hosts the Belk Bowl at the end of the season and the ACC Championship game. Be sure to check the schedule of events for this venue to catch soccer games and concerts throughout the year.

Spectrum Center: – Home of the Charlotte Hornets

Maybe football isn’t your thing or you are an enthusiast of all sports. You’re in luck! Joining you in your back yard along with the Panthers are NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets. Although the 2019 season is over for the Hornets, once you are settled in your new home be sure to check out a game in 2020.  The Spectrum Center not only hosts basketball games but also wonderful concerts of billboard topping artists throughout the year. In 2019 you can catch Ariana Grande, Alan Jackson, New Kids on the Block, Cirque Du Soleil, John Mayer and others.

PNC Music Pavilion

Another venue in the Charlotte area for chart topping artists to take the stage is the PNC Music Pavilion. This one of a kind venue can seat over 18,000! You have the option of assigned seating under a covered area or on a beautiful summer night catch a general admission ticket on the lawn. It’s your opportunity to take a blanket, set up with friends and family, and catch a spectacular concert from some of the top names in music! Children ages 2 years and under are admitted free.

The EpiCentre

The EpiCentre located in the heart of Charlotte is a great place to spend the day and also filled with nightlight activities. With more than 20 different restaurants you have no chance of leaving the EpiCentre with an empty stomach. A favorite spot in the EpiCentre is Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Whisky River. This venue has great food, entertainment, live music and a great bar scene. You can also eat, bowl and play at Strike City. Strike City is a fun, 18 lane bowling alley with a dance floor, eatery and DJ. The EpiCentre is also a great place for a low key date night. The Studio Movie Grill in-theater dining is the perfect place to enjoy dinner and a show! After a movie you can enjoy the night life at Tin Roof, Vault, or Howl At The Moon with some live music and dancing.

Concord Mills

Just a mile or two outside of the Charlotte City Limits is Concord Mills in Concord, NC. This shopping mall is filled with premium stores and restaurants. After a day of shopping, take in a nice movie at AMC Concord.

In the same area you can have a change in scenery with the underwater world at Sea Life Aquarium. In the Sea Life Aquarium there are 10 zones to explore. Spend your day venturing through Stingray Bay, shipwreck exhibit of the Pacific, or an awesome interactive touch pool to feel the star fish, sea urchins or lobsters. Before you arrive, look up feeding times and talk with the staff to learn all you can about the underwater creatures.
