Labor Day Weekend in the Carolinas: 5 Fun & Free Things To Do

These are some of our favorite ways to spend Labor Day weekend in North and South Carolina. Diversity of the natural landscape is one of the best things about living here. From shoreline sunsets to mountain vistas, we are never lacking for fun places to spend a long weekend, and there are plenty of events enticing enough to justify a day trip!

 

CHAPIN LABOR DAY FESTIVAL AND PARADE
Date: September 1-3, 2018
Location: Chapin, SC

This three-day event takes place in a charming lake town north of Columbia, SC. It promises plenty of food and a big parade as well as live music, a farmer’s market, classic car show, a benefit 5K run/walk, children’s carnival and cupcake eating contest! Website

 

DAY TRIP TO THE BEACH
Date: Anytime
Location: NC & SC

Get your playlist ready and take a road trip! From the Isle of Palms in the South Carolina Lowcountry to the Outer Banks of the North Carolina coast, there are so many beautiful beaches to explore in the Carolinas. If you are looking for some extra excitement, check out the music and fireworks at Plyer Park in downtown Myrtle Beach on Saturday, September 1st at 10 p.m.

 

EMERALD VILLAGE ROCKFEST
Date: Sept. 1–2, 2018
Location: Asheville, NC

This weekend event features tours of the underground mines, treasure hunts for kids, and live bluegrass and country music in the mountains of Little Switzerland. Website

 

LABOR DAY CELEBRATION AT U.S. NATIONAL WHITEWATER CENTER
Date: Aug. 31- Sept. 2, 2018
Location: Charlotte, NC

As if a triathlon and River Jam concert weren’t enough, they will be offering a variety of instructor-led yoga classes (including paddle-board yoga on the Catawba River), a climbing competition and fireworks after the sun goes down! All activities at the U.S. National Whitewater Center will be open, too. This means you will have access to expert rafting and zip lining facilities and instructors. Website

 

NORTH CAROLINA APPLE FESTIVAL
Date: Aug. 31 – Sept. 3, 2018
Location: Hendersonville, NC

A four-day street fair that has been entertaining folks for over seventy years, this festival celebrates one of our favorite fall fruits with live music, arts & crafts, special exhibits, and food. Of course, there will be plenty of fresh apples available for purchase from local growers. Stick around for the King Apple Parade on Labor Day. Website
