As the Christmas holiday approaches, now is the time to plan for memorable family trips. But don’t book a flight just yet! Our homeowners in Columbia are close to tons of holiday festivities that local communities have to offer. One popular festivity lets residents experience the Midlands’ largest drive-through light show. The Holiday Lights on the River features over 400 animated light displays and fun-filled family activities that are offered every night during the event.
Held at Saluda Shoals Park, just eight minutes from our Preserve at Rolling Creek community in Irmo, the event includes a wetland wonderland walking trail, laser light show, tube slide, ice skating rink, train rides and plentiful amounts of warm holiday food and drinks. Other events taking place throughout the day are various crafts, visits and photos with Santa and Santa’s gift shop. The event began November 23 and will last until December 21; nightly activities will not be available on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Santa will be visiting Holiday Lights between December 9 and 23 from 6 to 10 p.m., and photography fees do apply.
Holiday Lights visitors will enjoy a new route this year, with the new entrance off St. Andrews Road. All Holiday Lights traffic will enter Saluda Shoals Park at the east entrance located between Wendy’s and Aldi at 6071 St. Andrews Road and exit onto Bush River Road. Some activities do have nominal fees that apply, such as a $2 per person train ride and $1 per person hayride. Holiday Lights admission is $15 per car, $25 per passenger van and $40 per bus.
